SBS 5302 SBS Ph.D. Internship (Practical or Research)

Normally completed during the Summer after Year 1, the Ph.D. internship is a structured and mentored practical or research experience through which students gain experience within public health research or programmatic teams as well as skills and competencies to complete a substantial product that addresses a specific public health issue. Academic mentors will assist students in identifying internship supervisors and establish learning objectives. Students commit to (the equivalent of) 10 hours per week for 16 weeks, while internship supervisors provide guidance to achieve a set of deliverables or products, such as an analyzed data set, a program curriculum, a community screening event, or a submitted research manuscript. The internship can also provide pilot data or necessary experience that will inform dissertation proposals.
