QDS 5301 Introduction to the Analysis of Public Health Data
This course will introduce students to the statistical analysis of various types of data used in public health and implementation of the R programming software for public health research. Oriented toward practical skill development, R programming topics include methods to create, store, and retrieve datasets and perform basic data manipulations, including cleaning, reporting, analyzing, and exporting data. The initial section of topics for statistical analysis deals with different types of variables and how their distributions are summarized and displayed graphically. Next, the concepts of hypothesis testing are discussed, along with a variety of measures used in public health. The course concludes with an overview of various methods used to model data, including linear regression and alternative regression approaches. 3 credit hours will be devoted to lecture and 1 credit hour for programming in R.
