HSS 5318 Applied Econometrics
This course focuses on basic and intermediate applied econometrics and includes models appropriate for different data structures. Topics include advanced linear regression models (continuous or best linear approximation of non-continuous dependent variable, nonlinear regression terms including categorical and squared independent variables, and nonlinear transformations including log-linear and log-log specifications), binary dependent variable models, count data models, censored regression, generalized linear models, Heckman selection, and instrumental variable models. Students develop a research question, identify an appropriate dataset, and conduct a preliminary analysis using at least one of the techniques covered in the course.
