PED 2125W CRITICALLY APPRAISING COVID
In this era of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, multiple articles have recently been published to rapidly disseminate crucial information and data. As healthcare providers, it is our duty to make sure we are providing evidence-based care that is effective and safe for our patients and for ourselves as healthcare workers. Often, we base our clinical decisions on research that has been done. However, not all research is created equal. Therefore, it is more important than ever for healthcare professionals to responsibly analyze the evidence that is published as it can have serious consequences to our patients and their quality of care. This class will dive into the world of critical appraisal so that we can evaluate the quality of evidence available and apply it to our clinical care when appropriate. We will learn various qualitative and quantitative analytical concepts, and then apply them to both current articles relating to COVID as well as historical articles that have shaped our standard of care. By learning these skills, students will have the tools they need to be critical appraisers of evidence and thoughtful clinicians.
