Requirements for Admission
Applicants for the Master of Public Health must:

Complete a baccalaureate degree in any field prior to admission;

Complete a personal statement to include:

Your reasons for pursuing an M.P.H.

A clear and concise description of your relevant public health experience

Why you feel UT Southwestern might be a good fit for you.

Complete the online application accessed on the admissions page; and
-
Submit at least three letters of recommendation.
Currently, the Master of Public Health only accepts full-time students. Selection for admission to the Public Health Program is highly competitive and is based on the criteria outlined in the Evaluation of Applicants page.
Applicants for the M.D./M.P.H. Dual Degree must:

Apply and receive admittance to the M.D. program at UT Southwestern;

Complete the dual degree online application on the admissions page.

Dual degree applicants may opt to use their medical school letters of recommendation or submit up to five additional letters.
Applicants for the Ph.D. in Public Health must:
- Complete a master’s degree in any field prior to admission;
- Complete a statement of purpose and objectives in 1,500 words or less to address:
- What interests you about your chosen concentration (Health Economics and Policy or Health Data Sciences)? Why did you choose UT Southwestern?
- Describe your research interest, relevant work, and commitment to public health.
- What are your short- and long-term career objectives?
- Describe how your personal background and life experiences led to your decision to pursue a Ph.D. in public health.
- Complete a writing sample. The writing sample should:
- Be scientific writing of approximately 15-20 pages in length, preferably related to public health.
- Be an original work written by the applicant and submitted for a grade or publication where the applicant is the sole or first author.
- Demonstrate an aptitude for scholarly writing (e.g., manuscript, research proposal, master’s thesis or capstone paper, white paper, or policy statement).
- Complete the online application accessed on the admissions page; and
- Submit at least three letters of recommendation.
