PATH 2106 PATHOLOGY IN CL MEDICINE

This is a 4-week introductory course enabling the student to explore the medical specialty/discipline of Clinical Pathology. The student will learn about the scope of practice, breadth of clinical laboratory analysis. The concept of the testing cycle (pre-analytics, analytics and post-analytics). Frequently encountered pathology/diagnoses, and specialty specific diagnostic procedures. The purpose of the course is to allow the student the opportunity to explore a career in the specialty, and/or to acquire knowledge in the specialty regarding appropriate referrals, consults, etc. relevant to future career plans. Time spent during this 4-weeks’ period can be (depending on vacancy availability) in any sole or combination of the subspecialties of Clinical Pathology (Clinical Chemistry, Medical Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine, Molecular Diagnostics, and Cytogenetics/HLA).
