Appealing Academic Decisions by the Student Promotions Committee
Student who have received an Academic Warning, Probation, or Dismissal from the Student Promotions Committee may initiate an appeal of the decision in writing to the Dean within 10 business days. The student's appeal must include the reasons the student believes the Student Promotions Committee's decision was in error, the remedy sought, and all relevant materials that the student wants to be considered.
An Associate Dean for Student Affairs will submit to the Dean all materials relevant to the appeal that were considered by the Student Promotions Committee and a summary of the basis for the Student Promotions Committee's decision. The Dean will appoint an ad hoc committee to consider the appeal and provide the student with the names of the ad hoc committee members in writing. All materials submitted by the student and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs will be provided to the ad hoc committee. If requested by the student, the ad hoc committee will meet with the student to discuss the appeal. A meeting with the ad hoc committee is confidential, and advisors (e.g., attorneys, parents, mentors, classmates) may not attend.
The ad hoc committee will forward a written decision to the student, with a copy to the Dean, within 10 business days after the ad hoc committee has received the appeal or met with the student, whichever is later.
If the student is not satisfied with the ad hoc committee's decision, the student may submit a written appeal to the Dean within 10 business days. The Dean will consider the appeal and forward a written decision to the student within 10 business days.
The decision of the Dean is final.
