GD 5107 Fundamentals of Science and Grant Writing
This course introduces students to the foundational principles of developing rigorous scientific research proposals and the essential components of competitive grant writing. Through lectures, interactive discussions, and peer-review activities, students will explore the scientific method, experimental rigor, creativity in research design, and strategies for communicating significance and innovation. The course will provide practical instruction in developing major sections of research grant applications commonly required in fellowship proposals. Students will participate in small-group discussions and a mock study section to gain experience in grant evaluation and scientific review. By the end of the course, students will developed critical skills in scientific thinking, proposal development, and persuasive research communication.
