PSY 1901 SEL - PSYCHIATRY SUB-I

This Psychiatry selective will take place on the Parkland Consultation-Liaison service. The student assigned to this selective will be expected to function at the level of an intern, under the direct supervision of attending faculty members, psychosomatic psychiatry fellows and psychiatry residents. The student will be assigned patients and be responsible for their management for the time period that the psychiatric consult service is involved in their care. The student will assess patients, develop and implement patient care plans. They will be specifically graded on their ability to manage patients. The student will be expected to participate in rounds, attend weekly educational activities and contribute to the education of other medical students and psychology trainees. The student is required to demonstrate critical thinking and medical knowledge via a formal assessment method which will include a formal presentation on an approved topic with evidence of literature review. The student will be required to demonstrate competence in working within a large health-care system and with the CLservice’s interdisciplinary team structure.
