NEUR 1805 NEUROLOGY CORE CLERKSHIP
This four-week clerkship in clinical neurology offers students instruction in the assessment and management of patients with a variety of neurological conditions. The objectives of this clerkship are to develop an understanding of common neurological problems and neuro emergencies, learn neurological localization and differential diagnosis, and understand major neurological treatment options. Students will be instructed on performing a through and efficient neurological examination and develop experience in counseling patients regarding the treatment and prognosis of neurological diseases. Students will rotate through the inpatient general and stroke neurology services at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion – William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, as well as the neurology services at Clements University Hospital, Children’s Medical Center Dallas, and the Dallas VA Medical Center. Students are assigned to work with fellows, residents and interns and are under the overall supervision of a neurology faculty member. The clerkship does not involve outpatient experiences. Students will receive instruction during rounds and will also be taught neurology at regularly scheduled conferences and tutorial seminars. They are expected to attend grand rounds in neurology and other special neurological conferences that may be held from time to time. Students will also read suggested texts and articles during the clerkship to build a foundation of knowledge in neurology.
