LIB 2001 EXPLORE MEDICAL HUMANITIES
This “full-time” elective is a two week long course. Students will meet for 2.5 hours three days per week with a faculty member and/or other content expert. In-between these sessions, students will devote their time to the study of assigned materials: readings, writing and visual content. Each week, students will submit a short paper or other creative work that reflects, supports, or otherwise corresponds to the course material. Students will discuss ways in which the lessons from literature can be applied to their medical practice and work on writing projects intended to introduce them to the healing power of visual and written art, music, and storytelling through lens of culture, history, psychology, and sociology. A course syllabus and reading list will be provided. The course will be organized into four sections: • Art and Medicine • Literature and Medicine • Reflective Writing • Selected Aspects of Medical History
