ENRH 149 HLTHCR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES
Students registered in this elective will be subjected to small group projects geared toward engaging them with the community to learn about various aspects of health disparities. Students are also asked, but not required to volunteer one clinic day at one of UTSW’s student-run clinics and blog about their experience in our "Healthcare in Underserved Communities" elective web-based platform. The class includes both a community project and class discussions with related topics of healthcare disparities. Students must be able to define the social determinants of health affecting underserved communities; increase their knowledge of health policy and the effect on care of the underserved and understand the limitations of healthcare implementation in an underserved population.
