PMED 2001 EXPLORE PM&R

This is a 2-week introductory course enabling the student to explore the medical specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also called Physiatry. The student will learn about the scope of practice, frequently encountered pathology/diagnoses, and specialty specific diagnostic procedures. There will be exposure to both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation medicine, with varied patient populations and clinical settings. The purpose of the course is to allow the student the opportunity to explore a career in PM&R, and/or to acquire knowledge in the specialty regarding appropriate referrals, consults, etc. relevant to future career plans. The elective may be repeated for a total of 4-weeks if desired, but will not count as a sufficient subinternship for those wanting to pursue a career in PM&R.
