PED 2120 PEDI INFECTIOUS DISEASE

A month on the Infectious Disease service allows students the opportunity to fully participate on the busy ID consult service at Children’s Medical Center. The ID team provides consultations to all lines of service throughout Children’s and the neonatal services at Parkland Memorial Hospital, in addition to seeing patients in an outpatient referral clinic. The Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinical Elective now offers an individualized experience, with: • Continued exposure to general infectious diseases patients through the General I.D. consulting service; • Introductory educational activities including Children’s Clinical Microbiology lab overview, Infection Prevention and Control overview, Pharmacology ‘boot camp’ lecture by ID clinical pharmacist • New optional I.D. clinical opportunities offering perspectives on diagnoses and management of specialized I.D. cases in unique settings: Immunocompromised Host service, Ambulatory ID clinics, Orthopedics/ Musculoskeletal Infection team • Encouraged individualized investigation of infectious disease career-related options during the core rotation.
